Clinical Director / General Practitioner - Gonville Health

Whanganui Regional Primary Health Organisation is seeking applications from qualified, experienced and motivated persons for the key management role of Clinical Director / General Practitioner at our busy Gonville clinic.  The Gonville Health clinic is based in Wanganui and provides health services for families/whanau of Wanganui City and greater Whanganui District.

This position offers the opportunity for a Clinical Director / General Practitioner to demonstrate medical leadership through participation in an interdisciplinary clinical team setting, providing General Practice services for enrolled patients within Wanganui City. The legal entity is ‘not for profit’  and has been developed as a mechanism for meeting the primary health needs for those patients with complex chronic health needs and people new to the city.

Clinical Director

The role of Clinical Director offers an opportunity to contribute to effective team management through leadership/ planning and systems development.  The group of patients have a range of high need complex health issues which include injury and acute and chronic health conditions.

The successful applicant will develop effective clinical management medical systems, including clinical protocols for service access, referral and transfers and strengthening team based care through effective internal processes, while providing effective medical leadership.

General Practitioner

The role of General Practitioner will require an individual to practice in parallel as a Medical Practitioner and Clinical Director.  The successful applicant will demonstrate some experience in primary health care delivery and competently respond to both acute and chronic health care management.

The General Practitioner is accountable for their own clinical decision-making.  It is expected that General Practitioners working at the clinic will perform their duties with all reasonable knowledge, skill and care to ensure best practice outcomes for patients.

The Clinical Director / GP will maintain acceptable standards of clinical practice within the clinic by:

  • Demonstrating and teaching effective assessment skills and recognising the need for improved practice
  • Planning opportunities to improve safety and effectiveness of care delivery
  • Engaging other providers and disciplines to participate in individual patient care planning processes, particularly for patients with complex health problems
  • Maintaining a high quality of medical practice to ensure best practice outcomes
  • Providing culturally appropriate care delivery and application of the Treaty of Waitangi principles
  • Developing and implementing clinical protocols and guidelines, in consultation with the Team, and monitoring these to ensure ongoing effectiveness
  • Participating in the evaluation processes measuring the effectiveness of clinical care delivery
  • Consistently demonstrating professional accountability and leadership
  • Investigating opportunities for service improvement introducing change and audit outcomes
  • Anticipating and effectively managing medical clinical patient problems while demonstrating reasonable skill, knowledge and care
  • Participating in regular interdisciplinary case review activity
  • Establishing effective communication with all Clinic personnel through formal and informal planning, mentoring, clinical supervision and staff meetings

Applicants will possess the following:

Essential

  • Must be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
  • The Practitioner must be able to practice autonomously within general practice environment or work under general oversight as outlined within MCNZ document, Assessment of Overseas Trained Doctor
  • AMPA qualification

Desirable

  • RNZCGP Advanced Vocational Education programme completion
